Beth's Crate Digging Extravaganza: Harry Nilsson "Nilsson Schmilsson" (1971) 03-08-24

 


Let's take a trip to the record shop for another Beth's Crate Digging Extravaganza on this new episode of Boppin' With Beth! The spotlight is on Harry Nilsson's masterpiece, "Nilsson Schmilsson" from 1971. Hear a couple of tracks from the album, snippets of the other tunes, players on the album, the album cover, his daughter Olivia Nilsson talking about sequencing and more! There's some tunes from some of his influences and friends including Little Richard, Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Randy Newman, Micky Dolenz (covering a Nilsson classic with Phil Keaggy on guitar), Badfinger (with their original version of a Nilsson hit from this album), Robin Zander (covering a tune from this album) and Ringo Starr. There is even a cover of "Gotta Get Up" by Harry's daughter, Annie Nilsson! Beth's Bop Of The Week is a great tune from Al Jardine. Jammin' James Riley has a track from David Marks & The Marksmen in Hang Ten. Gotta Get Up and listen to this one!

Warren Zevon "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 12-08-23

 


The late, great Warren Zevon is the "focus beam" artist on the new Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his life, career and untimely passing. There's a couple of great solo tracks from his catalog as well as one from his side band, Hindu Love Gods. There's some songs from influences and peers including The Everly Brothers, Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, Bob Dylan as well as covers by Linda Ronstadt, The Turtles and The Bangles. Beth's Bop Of The Week is a great song from Warren's son, Jordan Zevon! Jammin' James Riley has a tune by The Trashmen in Hang Ten!

Mike Love of The Beach Boys is our "focus beam" artist this week. Hear all about his life and career along with a few tracks from The Beach Boys, his solo career and his son, Christian Love.
