Beth's Crate Digging Extravaganza: The Beach Boys- "The Beach Boys Today!" (1965) 06-14-24

 


There's nothing like a trip to the record shop and a cool new Beth's Crate Digging Extravaganza on this episode of Boppin' With Beth. This week, we dig into "The Beach Boys Today!" album from 1965! We'll hear 2 full songs and snippets of the others. Plus, there's covers of most of the songs on the album by Al Jardine, Brian Wilson, The Weeklings, Johnathan Pushkar, She & Him, Pat DiNizio, Wilson Phillips and The Red Squares. Hear the original versions of a couple of tracks by Bobby Freeman and The Students. Beth's Crate Digging Extravaganza: Harry Nilsson "Nilsson Schmilsson" (1971) 03-08-24

 


Let's take a trip to the record shop for another Beth's Crate Digging Extravaganza on this new episode of Boppin' With Beth! The spotlight is on Harry Nilsson's masterpiece, "Nilsson Schmilsson" from 1971. Hear a couple of tracks from the album, snippets of the other tunes, players on the album, the album cover, his daughter Olivia Nilsson talking about sequencing and more! There's some tunes from some of his influences and friends including Little Richard, Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Everly Brothers, Randy Newman, Micky Dolenz (covering a Nilsson classic with Phil Keaggy on guitar), Badfinger (with their original version of a Nilsson hit from this album), Robin Zander (covering a tune from this album) and Ringo Starr. There is even a cover of "Gotta Get Up" by Harry's daughter, Annie Nilsson! Beth's Bop Of The Week is a great tune from Al Jardine. Al Jardine "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 09-03-21

 



American musician, singer, songwriter and co-founder of The Beach Boys, Al Jardine, is our "focus beam" artist this week! We hear a couple of his solo tunes (including his latest "Waves Of Love 2.0") along with hearing about his story. There's songs from influences and peers on here too including The Beach Boys (with Al on lead vocals), Brian Wilson (featuring Al and Blondie Chaplin), Pete Seeger, The Crows, America and The Limeliters.
