Hoyt Axton "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 05-10-24

 


The late, great American singer-songwriter, guitarist and actor Hoyt Axton is the "focus beam" artist on this new Boppin' With Beth! You'll hear about his story and a couple of great tunes from his catalog. There's also songs from some of his influences including Elvis Presley (Hoyt's mom wrote a hit for him), Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and artists that have covered him including Three Dog Night, The Kingston Trio, Waylon Jennings, Glen Campbell, The Astronauts and Dallas Moore. Beth's Bop Of The Week is from Hoyt's son, Matt Axton! Jammin' James Riley has a tune from The Martian Denny Orchestra in Hang Ten. There's also new tunes from The Lucky Odds and from an upcoming release by Johnny Cash too!

J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 11-17-23

 


The late, great J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson is the "focus beam" artist on the new Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his DJ career, music career and tragic death on the Winter Dance Party tour along with his fellow tourmates Buddy Holly & Ritchie Valens. In addition to a couple of tunes of his from his too brief career, there's tracks by influences and peers including Hank Williams & His Drifting Cowboys, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Dion & The Belmonts. Beth's Bop Of The Week is a fun new tune from The Gold Needles. Jammin' James Riley has a song from The Astronauts in Hang Ten. There's also tracks from Darrel Higham, Lucky 757, Ryan Glenn and George Jones with Mark Knopfler (covering a song written by The Big Bopper).
