Bo Diddley "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 06-07-24

 


The late, great Bo Diddley is the "focus beam" artist on this week's Boppin' With Beth! Hear about his great career along with a couple of rockin' tunes from his discography. There's songs from some of his influences including John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Louis Jordan and Elmore James. Hear covers from just a portion of the many artists that he influenced including Buddy Holly, Dion, The Yardbirds, Billy F Gibbons, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Jimmy Barnes. J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 11-17-23

 


The late, great J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson is the "focus beam" artist on the new Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his DJ career, music career and tragic death on the Winter Dance Party tour along with his fellow tourmates Buddy Holly & Ritchie Valens. In addition to a couple of tunes of his from his too brief career, there's tracks by influences and peers including Hank Williams & His Drifting Cowboys, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Dion & The Belmonts. Beth's Bop Of The Week is a fun new tune from The Gold Needles. Jammin' James Riley has a song from The Astronauts in Hang Ten. There's also tracks from Darrel Higham, Lucky 757, Ryan Glenn and George Jones with Mark Knopfler (covering a song written by The Big Bopper).

Ritchie Valens "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 02-24-23

 


The late, great singer, songwriter and guitarist Ritchie Valens is the "Focus Beam" artist this week on Boppin' With Beth. He was only 17 when he died and his recording career was only 8 months, but his impact is still felt today. Hear a couple of his tunes as well as songs from influences, peers and some he influenced including Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Dion, The Penguins, The Drifters, Los Lobos, Eddie Cochran and Los Lonely Boys. There's a new rockin' cover of a classic rock & roll tune by Reverend Horton Heat. Beth's Bop Of The Week is by a couple of former members of The Hollies (Allan Clarke with Graham Nash) and Jammin' James Riley has a rocker from The Beach Boys in Hang Ten!

American singer-songwriter John Ford Coley is the "focus beam" artist on the new Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his early days with duo partner England Dan, his solo releases and more.
