J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 11-17-23

 


The late, great J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson is the "focus beam" artist on the new Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his DJ career, music career and tragic death on the Winter Dance Party tour along with his fellow tourmates Buddy Holly & Ritchie Valens. In addition to a couple of tunes of his from his too brief career, there's tracks by influences and peers including Hank Williams & His Drifting Cowboys, Bill Haley & His Comets, Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Dion & The Belmonts. Beth's Bop Of The Week is a fun new tune from The Gold Needles. Jammin' James Riley has a song from The Astronauts in Hang Ten. There's also tracks from Darrel Higham, Lucky 757, Ryan Glenn and George Jones with Mark Knopfler (covering a song written by The Big Bopper).

Darrel Higham "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 05-05-23

 


English rockabilly singer and guitarist Darrel Higham is the "focus beam" artist on this extra boppin' episode of Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his career, a couple of rockin' tracks from his catalog and a track under a different band name (Hal Weston & The Offbeats). Gene Vincent "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 05-13-22

 


Rock & Roll and Rockabilly pioneer Gene Vincent is the "focus beam" artist on the new Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his life and career (including his favorite song being one from Beethoven...and one of the last songs he ever recorded was "Roll Over Beethoven") and a couple of rockers from his discography! Plus, there's great tunes from some of his influences and peers including Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino. The Coasters "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 09-24-21


American rhythm & blues/rock 'n' roll/ doo-wop group, The Coasters are the "focus beam" group this week. They were the first group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987. We'll hear tunes from some of their peers and others they influenced including The Cadillacs, The Beach Boys, Dion & The Belmonts, The Del Vikings, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Drifters and Grateful Dead including a couple of boppin' tunes from their catalog. Jammin' James Riley has a Wanda Jackson classic in Rockabilly Rewind and there's tunes from JD McPherson, Sue Moreno, Darrel Higham, Rio & The Rockabilly Revival and Nathan Belt & The Buckles as well!!
