Darrel Higham "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 05-05-23

 


English rockabilly singer and guitarist Darrel Higham is the "focus beam" artist on this extra boppin' episode of Boppin' With Beth. Hear about his career, a couple of rockin' tracks from his catalog and a track under a different band name (Hal Weston & The Offbeats). There's also tunes from some of his influences including Eddie Cochran, Elvis Presley, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'N' Roll Trio, Bill Haley with Haley's Comets, Restless, Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps, Chuck Berry and Ricky Nelson. Ritchie Valens "Focus Beam" on Boppin' With Beth 02-24-23

 


The late, great singer, songwriter and guitarist Ritchie Valens is the "Focus Beam" artist this week on Boppin' With Beth. He was only 17 when he died and his recording career was only 8 months, but his impact is still felt today. Hear a couple of his tunes as well as songs from influences, peers and some he influenced including Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Dion, The Penguins, The Drifters, Los Lobos, Eddie Cochran and Los Lonely Boys. There's a new rockin' cover of a classic rock & roll tune by Reverend Horton Heat. Beth's Bop Of The Week is by a couple of former members of The Hollies (Allan Clarke with Graham Nash) and Jammin' James Riley has a rocker from The Beach Boys in Hang Ten!

Americana singer-songwriter Steve Forbert is the "Focus Beam" artist on this new Boppin' With Beth.
